78 Michigan Parks: Twin Lakes State Park #3

Stop 12. [End day 2]

As the sun sank down behind the trees, and we saw that we still had over two hours of solid driving to get to our Airbnb, I conceded that skipping the final two parks of the day was a necessity.

So, when we stopped at Twin Lakes we let the kids know that this was the final stop, and that we still had a drive ahead of us. 

I think we had just a few minutes left before 10, but we wouldn't have gotten to see much of the park, so this sign was less sad than it could have been.

We did finally use the blacklights, just not in the way we thought!

All stores were once again closed as we approached our Airbnb, and we encountered virtually no traffic on our southbound journey!

There were not nearly as many bugs as night one, but we still unloaded in the dark.  It was well past midnight by the time we got in.

The entertainment and basement accommodations were top notch, but upstairs was hot and stuffy and we were so tired we couldn't get the windows open.

William was relegated to the couch this go round, which is still an upgrade from the floor the night before!

After a short, hot, night, we were up early again to find some milk for our cereal, but we once again had our Starbucks drinks, et al, for some liquid calories before we set out.

My mom and Alice got up early to walk and explore the area.

It wasn't a bad accommodation once we got the windows open!  The single bathroom did make for a few uncomfortable moments, but as sleepy as we were, it just made it feel like we were 'rustic' camping.

We were in central time zone at this accommodation, but gaining the hour did not help us get out the door any earlier, and we had to cross the bridge, preferably before dark, so we discussed dropping a park on this day too. 

Emily drove us into Iron River to buy provisions for breakfast and lunch again!

Maybe when we return for the missed parks (Porcupine Mt and Lake Gogebic) we can see about visiting Twin Lakes State Park for real!
