Christmas Day!

Christmas morning came early! Poor Billy woke up with some gout pain, woke me for some medicine, and so we ended up opening gifts without him at 6am. = (

He said that he could hear the kids oohs and ahhs before the medicine kicked in though, so he didn't miss out completely!   The vast majority of the kids' gifts were second hand (some were still in original packaging!)

Sorting through stocking stuffers!  The tiny food & bike was a huge hit!  ($10 thrift store, and less than that for food stuffs to enhance it.)  Grace used it way more than Molly all day!

And the piles! (Do you love my reuseable bags? I love my reusable bags!)

William dart board ($3 thrift store)

My favorite picture of the morning!  ($1 umbrella at the MI state sale)

Juliet's favorite gift of the day! A giant Ariel Squishmallow!!!  (Used at a yard sale in May for $13)

Alice bought William his most annoying favorite gift!  A squeaky green chicken?

William absconding with his pile of squishmallows.

And our trash/recycling piles!! I feel like that maybe they are smaller than last year???

And the piles that will go in tubs to be stored for use next year!

My mom found some crackers for us to use on Christmas day!  The waste from those was more than all the gifts of the day! = 0  I've looked into reusable crackers, they are expensive, so I'm on the hunt to buy supplies to make my own!!!

Juliet lit her hope, peace, joy, love, and Jesus candles!!!  She burned the small ones to the base, and I repurposed the Jesus candle into our emergency stash. As little waste as possible!!! A very cool craft that they made at church. It was a big hit!

Grace adopted one of Alice's gifts (fairy lights) into a cool space. = )

We were happy to have Billy join us for lunch and the afternoon.  It was a nice day of family and laughter and love and relaxing!

Christmas Pajamas

Y'all, it is Christmas Eve and I'm all caught up posting, and now, I'm posting the Christmas Pajama pictures!  I'm really and truly up to date!!!!  (Also, the pumpkin pie for tomorrow is almost done and the crockpot is out and the Lego advent calendar is put away and the dishwasher is washing and the washer is washing and I'm feeling really put together for once!)

Anyhow, it took us two rounds to get an acceptable, smiling, still picture of all five.  Though, I do kind of like all the non-acceptable, kind-of-smiling, not-still pictures of my dear ones.  First, those:

And then, the one that has been staged and vetted and edited and can be used as my facebook cover photo:

Merry Christmas from all of us, may your Christmas be filled with fun and laughter and love!

So thankful for that baby born long, long ago, that gives us reason to celebrate today.

Snow

This post is a little lighter than years' past.  I am not complaining about the lack of snow and warmer temperatures, but I do feel bad for those that look forward to the snow, because they have been robbed this year!

11-26-23

Enough snow for the Emily and Grace to build a little snow family!

11-27-23

Expected more, but it didn't come.

11-28-23

A little more, but nothing impressive.

12-18-23

The only December snow that stuck!

It was plenty cold, but not snowy!!  The kids on the playground desperately wanted to make snowmen, but most of their base was wood chips. = (  I just happened to be working this day, and was out with one of the twins' classmates on the playground during their time. = )

It's not looking like it will be a white Christmas, as we're supposed to reach 53F today, and about the same tomorrow, Christmas day!

I'm sure the reckoning coming this spring, so I'll try to enjoy my nice Texas-like December.

Robotics Competition and Parade

This year the competition for both girls' teams were on the same day.  That same day: William's birthday.  William was quite the sport, and allowed us to celebrate his special day on the day before, since the big girls had to be up at the school at 550am to depart.

On the last meeting of the year, I snuck in to see the robot and see Alice at work programing, since I was a parent volunteer for the twins' team, and needed to be at their competition as a leader.

Billy and William drove down to Battle Creek to see Alice and Emily's team in action, though the accommodations were too small, and they did not stay very long.

We had a slightly later start time for the twins' competition, so we had plenty of time to prep and arrived early.  I had some camping chairs in my car (they just kind of live there now, as I find them to be quite useful) and brought them in on whim.  They were very comfortable compared to the cafeteria benches or stadium seats that were avialable to us for the day.

The fourth grade team!

It was a cool set up, four tables, only one ran at a time, but the other one would be used for teams to get in place, so that there was no down time!

On the back side were the informational displays that described the process and team building elements of the team, as well as the robot features!

The high school and middle school teams were exhibiting their robots (very cool!) in the common areas.

Most of the teams brought their practice tables, and anyone could hop on to use them in between competition rounds.  It was a really neat experience!

One of the tables had these cool cookies, so I took a picture! = )

My mom came to cheer on the twins (and it was a surprise!)  She also was sweet enough to volunteer to stand in the really long concession line to get each of us a cheeseburger!  Sadly she came back empty handed, as the smell that was making our mouths water was actually beef hot dogs! = (

But, my mom takes good care of me still, and drove up to burger king to get us each a whopper, so that we could satisfy that burger craving!

Neither of the girls' teams took an award, but it was a learning experience for all!  Playing with Legos all day, but not really getting to make anything, had Grace in the mood to build when she got home.  She built a trophy.  (Notice the lack of green and brown bricks?  lol.)

Once the big girls came home, I wanted a picture of all of them in their shirts. = )

Emily has been going to the off season robotics meetings, but Alice doesn't go, since she'll be on the high school team next year if she does it.  They did have a 'float' in the parade, for which Emily offered up our wagon.  So the two of us went really early so that they could start decorating it.

It looked really good!

Alice came out with Billy and the little ones closer to start time, but she did end up marching in the parade after some convincing.

Thankfully, it was a short parade, because it was COLD!  Surprisingly, they did throw out candy!  The little ones were excited.  Sadly, many of the candy canes broke, but we were able to use them for our Gingerbread house!

Billy and the little ones left, and I waited for the big girls to return and then disassemble their float, so that we could bring our wagon home. = )

It was a good, learning season, and I'm not sure what next year will look like, but I hope that William gets to join in too!
