5th Grade Field Trip: Charles Wright Museum

In December, we were given literature about a 5th grade field trip down to the Charles Wright Museum in Detroit.  When it said that chaperones could ride the bus, I was in!   As it got closer, my mom also signed up as a chaperone, so Grace and Juliet got both of us!

The museum building itself was beautiful!

Grace's group was with me, and Juliet's group was with my mom.  However, Juliet's bff, Kennedy, was in my group with Grace, so we spent time together as a double group for a large chunk of time.

The doors on the room where we ate a very early lunch!

My team chose the name "dingalings" and thought writing it on their papers while on the stairs was the best time to do it!

There were two small rotating exhibits on the outside of the main exhibit, so we started with those.

This entire structure is beaded!!!  So wild!

My group wasn't all that interested in the artifacts, but they loved the mirrored floors!

In the main area of the museum, you weren't allowed to take pictures (but I forgot myself for a moment and snapped this one) but followed the rules diligently after that!  So, there aren't many pictures of our time there.

We spent time reading and interacting with the first few exhibits, but once we found the answer to the first scavenger hunt clue, that was my groups' main focus, and so there wasn't much time for reading.  And, unlike the capital museum, I couldn't snap a picture for later reading.

Because the buses have to be back by two, it was a quick turnaround, and we were really only there a couple of hours.

As we were leaving, I really took a liking to the pattern on this door and took quite a few pictures of it.  Here are three perspectives, I'm not including the plethora of pictures that I took here.

The museum focuses on African American history, and is so well done!  It is really an impressive and impactful museum.  I hope I can take the rest of my crew there one day, because it really has to be experienced.
